We heard so much about Black Swan with Natalie Portman winning awards for the movie. The movie was criticized for its harsh portrayal of the world of ballet where everything is taken too seriously and the girls are under immense pressure.
Kimberly Jaraj, is a former pupil of the Royal Ballet School and now she is focusing on her acting career. She gives the details on how things are even worse in reality at the ballet schools
The 22 year old actress explained candidly that it is a really hard profession. Some girls would cry everyday because of the pressure. Kimberly attended the school from the age of eight. She was not pressured for being skinny because she weighed fine but other girls did. The girls were weighed frequently and so the pressure was always there. Kimberly was often questioned about her height that when her dad is 6 feet and her mom is 5 ft 6in than why is she not taller. At that time, Kimberly had no answer.
The teachers would be so strict and every little thing such as the pink ribbon in your hair could even be a reason to insult you. They could just tell you to sit out if one small thing went wrong.
Also Kimberly openly said how these people were so prejudiced. They didn't care about ethnicities or respect everybody. They didn't even accept somebody who was not white or Christian according to Kimberly.
Well, I have seen one movie on this subject before also and it is often shown how tough it is for little girls to cope with this sort of treatment. They go crazy to lose weight and to be perfect Their feet are always bleeding with hours of practice. It is torturous though I feel. And if these guys were prejudiced too the way Kimberly has mentioned, this is quite bad. It is a form of art and what sort of art disrespects ethnicities? I wouldn't ever want to be a part of such an activity.
