Danielle Lineker: 'Get into the World Cup spirit, girls!'

World Cup fever has taken over the Lineker house.http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/jun2010/3/6/v-image-1-536919153.jpg

On Sunday night we all sat down and watched One Night In Turin, a DVD about England’s doomed semi-final against West Germany in the 1990 World Cup where they lost on penalties and Gazza cried. I think it still sends shivers down the spines of England fans! Let’s not have a repeat performance, eh lads!

But it got us into the World Cup spirit and it was brilliant watching Gary’s goals because (being Welsh), I don’t really remember that game and Gary’s boys weren’t born yet. His son George was really impressed – ‘Fair play, Dad!’ he said.

Gary says as a player you’re not aware of how huge the world cup is back home, but in a few days time the entire country is going to be going World Cup crazy.

And even if, like me, you’re not the biggest football fan (or you support one of the other home nations) it’s great to get behind the tournament and let the excitement take over.

Hopefully the weather will be nice and there will be parties, barbies and a good vibe all around.

I hope my column will provide a bit of fun, too, and appeal to women like me who want to get involved (even if you don’t know the difference between a foul and a free kick!).

For the next six weeks I’ll be reporting on all the fashion and beauty trends from the tournament – I’m particularly intrigued to see what the Italian players’ wives will be wearing because I love Italian style.

I’m heading out to South Africa in a couple of weeks and I’m hoping to take my daughter Ella with me. She was born and raised in England so we have a bit of rivalry between us! I’m hoping to visit some schools out there with the education charity 1Goal, so I’d love her to experience that.

And of course I’ll be reporting for my column, giving you the inside track on all the trends from the tournament. I was watching a World Cup report on the telly the other night and the Africans are well up for a party – it was a real carnival atmosphere so I think it’s going to be brilliant.

My brother and step-dad are coming to London at the weekend so we’ll be watching the England game together.

Even though they’re Welsh through and through, they love Gary and they’ll be in the Lineker house, so they’ll have to support England!
